Liberal foundations lavish many Leftist causes with cash

An article in The Washington Times yesterday gives a small, but simultaneously revolting, peek into the millions of dollars that bankroll Leftist causes doled out by a number of liberal foundations and charities. The violent, anti-police, racist group Black Lives Matter, for example, was recently given $100 million by the Ford Foundation on top of $33 million given to the group by George Soros through his Open Society Foundations along with a grant from the Center for American Progress.

The Ford Foundation pitches itself as a globally oriented private foundation with the mission of advancing human welfare and is the fifth-largest U.S. philanthropy with $12.4 billion in assets. However, for all of their claims of seeking to advance a public good, according to National Association of Police Organizations executive director Bill Johnson the group took a Leftward shift in its charitable giving in the 1970’s by funding anti-police causes.

Back in 2005 when the debate on campaign finance was going on, The New York Post published a major story not only revealing campaign finance reform as nothing more than a scam but detailing the influence of Leftist charities and foundations in American politics. The article included testimony by former officer of Pew Charitable Trusts Sean Tregalia. During the interview Tregalia states:

…Treglia came up with a three-pronged strategy: 1) pursue an expansive agenda through incremental reforms, 2) pay for a handful of “experts” all over the country with foundation money and 3) create fake business, minority and religious groups to pound the table for reform.

“The target audience for all this activity was 535 people in Washington,” Treglia says — 100 in the Senate, 435 in the House. “The idea was to create an impression that a mass movement was afoot — that everywhere they looked, in academic institutions, in the business community, in religious groups, in ethnic groups, everywhere, people were talking about reform.” …

From 1994 to 2004, almost $140 million was spent to lobby for changes to our country’s campaign-finance laws. … The vast majority of this money — $123 million, 88 percent of the total — came from just eight liberal foundations.

These foundations were: the Pew Charitable Trusts ($40.1 million), the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy ($17.6 million), the Carnegie Corporation of New York ($14.1 million), the Joyce Foundation ($13.5 million), George Soros’ Open Society Institute ($12.6 million), the Jerome Kohlberg Trust ($11.3 million), the Ford Foundation ($8.8 million) and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation ($5.2 million).

The news media makes a big deal about Koch Brother political non-profits but a review of a list of the top 100 US Foundations (by asset size) show Koch Brothers charities don’t make the list. The Ford and MacArthur Foundations do and make the top ten.

Many of the charities named by Tregalia also fund environmentalist causes as well. According to an article published last year in The Daily Caller:

The Rockefeller Foundation, founded in 1913 with money from Standard Oil, in recent years has become one of the biggest backers of radical environmentalist organizations that hope to shut down oil production entirely, harming millions of American families.

Rockefeller-funded groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council and World Wildlife Fund don’t believe there is any role for fossil fuels like oil (or even nuclear energy) in our nation’s energy portfolio, though wind and solar power — their preferred alternatives — currently comprise less than five percent of all the electricity produced in the United States and are far more expensive than the alternatives.

The Rockefellers aren’t the only wealthy family funding environmentalist causes. The Park Foundation, founded with the fortune of Roy Hampton Park, is one of the biggest supporters of anti-fossil fuel and anti-chemical campaigns.

Huge left wing Foundations — often in collusion with corporate, investment and even government organizations — are putting tens, even hundreds of millions of dollars into research, advocacy, organizing, media and lobbying operations. The worst part about it is not just that most of the mainstream ignores this but that it has been able to fly under the radar for so long. The Left is using the tax structure of the United States in order to lay the groundwork not just to eradicate human populations but also for the demise of the United States and the West.
