Nobody cares about climate change, especially voters.

American climatologist Dr. Judith Curry on Tuesday announced that she would no longer maintain her influential blog, “Climate Etc.”

“It’s time to declare victory against climate stupidity and move on,” said in her final post. The reelection of President Donald Trump came with an overall shift in the political landscape regarding climate and energy issues. Since then, major media outlets shut down their climate desks, corporations are easing back on emission-reduction targets, and polls consistently show the public rates climate change low on their list of priorities.

Some figures like Curry who disputed the “climate crisis” narrative — often in the face of vitriol from those who support it — are now saying their efforts paid off and an era of climate hysteria is coming to an end.

Opposing the frenzy around climate alarmism has been a prolonged and often isolating struggle, frequently met with intense public backlash orchestrated by prominent environmental activists. Those who stepped up to defend reason and common sense on this issue did so at great personal cost—to their reputations and, in today’s increasingly hostile climate, sometimes even to their safety. Judith Curry stands out as a steadfast and courageous voice against this hysteria, and she has earned our deep appreciation.

Her role as a lukewarmist—acknowledging some human influence on climate while rejecting catastrophic scenarios—has been especially valuable. I, on the other hand, lean toward the more skeptical view that, once questionable data adjustments, publication bias, and poor-quality records are stripped away, there may be little to no genuine warming at all.

Having a credible figure argue that warming exists but is modest, complex, and demands careful scrutiny has served the discussion well. It offers a model of scholarly integrity and helps lower the emotional temperature in an overheated debate. In such polarized times, her measured, middle-ground perspective has been a welcome relief.

Yet science is never truly settled. What matters most is pursuing truth with honesty and rigor—and in that, Judith Curry has provided an inspiring example for an entire generation of how genuine scientific inquiry should be conducted.

Though Judith Curry has made refuting climate alarmism a lot easier, there is still work to do.
