Four years ago, the House Natural Resource Committee sent a letter to the Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) asking the group to clarify its policies and how they affect its relations with the People’s Republic of China. Shortly thereafter, the Democrats grabbed control of Congress’s lower chamber and that put the brakes on the NRDC probe.
With the prospect of Republicans winning the Congressional majority in November, a revival of the probe of the highly influential environmentalist group is likely. According to Fox News, the NRDC not only has influenced White House policy making but also has deep ties to China. Several members of their staff reportedly worked for the Chinese Communist Party or Chinese-connected organizations, Fox News says, the organization seldom denounces the Middle Kingdom, despite its huge carbon footprint, and the NRDC”s only office outside the U.S. is located in Peking.
Like the saying goes: hypocrisy is prejudice with a halo. But what is concerning is the NRDC, most likely, is keeping quiet out of solidarity with fellow Marxists and the green group acts as a kind of Fifth Column. The NRDC should register as foreign agents, except it should be as operating as agents of the Chinese government in the United States and their non-profit status should be revoked.
